They’re Killing The Middle Class

It’s part of the plan.

News headlines are crafted to hide the scope and scale of federal worker firings.

A recent New York Times headline reads “Trump strips job protections for up to 50,000 federal workers.” The caption under the photo reads “More than 352,000 employees left the federal government in 2025, according to the most recent data.”

Which best communicates the full scope of federal worker layoffs in 2025? The headline referencing 50k federal workers losing “protections”? Or, the small text photo caption that states that “More than 352,000 employees left the federal government in 2025”?

The thing to keep in mind is that this article was crafted by writers and editors at The New York Times. That means they know what they are doing. They are experts.

A scan of any mainstream newspaper presents a huge array of headlines on a dizzying number of topics. What is also apparent if you look is that there are few (if any) headlines on topics that address the immediate priorities of workers and a majority citizens.

It is indisputable that a story about more than a quarter million federal workers being fired (in an economy that has no replacement jobs for them) is more important to the public at large than the status of The Epstein Files (as awful as what Jeffrey Epstein did is).

It is clear that what working people want to read about is what their plans to do to help them fill the gaps of being unemployed.

And yet, those stories are not found in the daily newspapers and broadcasts.

Politicians entire campaigns today are all about telling you what they will do when you elect them.

It’s important for citizens to look for and elect politicians who:

  • Don’t take corporate money and are funded by the people they serve.
  • Tell you their job is to represent you, to listen you, and who present a plan for how they will engage with you when they are elected.
  • Encourage you to participate in the political process. And work to make it easier for you to do that.
